SUPER POSITIONS
is a new collection of music compositions.

The material spans a decade of critical, emotional, and creative inquiry into the phenomenology of music, beginning (or at least crystallising) during a 3-month solo sound art research
project in the Amazon rain forests of Brasil, Colombia, and Peru between 2007-2008.

It varies widely from intensely intimate solo piano to brutalist electric guitar deconstructions, drum solos played in the rain, monolithic durational string ensemble works, and destroyed circuitry.
Yet, together they represent a a kind of unified ecology. Each member its own state of aesthetic singularity within a omni-dimensional architecture.

The foundations of which is an inquiry into the fundamental premise that “music” is an applied cultural apparatus for sensing, engaging, and understanding our position and orientation to and within the world around us.

A medium through which we construct the vital but subjectively abstract relationships with nature both within and beyond the limits or anthropocentricity.

This collection of compositions represents a very broad but slow front of listening, thinking, and making music over the last decade.
A back burner for sure, but also a tortoise, an old friend, a place thats meaning gets deeper every time its revisited.

I’m offering it for free very purposefully because I want to remove as best I can the influence that capital market economics has managed to wield both over the perceived value of music (and lets be honest, this project is hardly going to make money much if I did charge for it, so whats the point again?), as well as the wholly discriminatory influence it has over its modes of dissemination.
I made it to share with people, and I want to make that as easy as possible.
Saying that, if you want to buy me lunch in exchange for it, I wouldn’t turn it down.

Peace out
Sam
